Free Smoky Mountain Elopement Guide

Thinking About Eloping? Start Here.

A practical Smoky Mountain elopement guide for couples considering an intimate wedding in East Tennessee and Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Plan a wedding that feels like you, not like a smaller version of someone else’s wedding.

Eloping gives you more choices, not fewer.

An elopement can be a mountaintop ceremony, a quiet cabin wedding, a chapel followed by an afternoon in the mountains, or simply the two of you somewhere meaningful.

This guide will help you think through what kind of experience you want first, then walk you through the practical side of making it happen.

Inside, we’ll cover ideas for elopements anywhere in the country, plus detailed advice for planning an elopement in East Tennessee and the Great Smoky Mountains.

Why I Made This Guide

My own dream wedding was an elopement.

In 2012, I wanted to hike to Chimney Tops with the person I loved and a friend, exchange our vows there and come back down married.

But I couldn’t find clear information about how to actually make something like that happen. Where could we legally get married? Did we need a permit? Who could perform the ceremony? How did the marriage license work?

Eventually, it became easier to choose a local chapel.

I never forgot the wedding I had imagined.

That’s why I want couples planning an elopement today to understand their options before deciding that the experience they really want is too difficult.

Your Smoky Mountain Elopement Can Be as Simple or Adventurous as You Want

Cabin Ceremony

Get ready slowly, exchange vows privately and head into the mountains afterward.

Great Smoky Mountains Ceremony

Choose an approved ceremony location and build the rest of the day around exploring together

Chapel + Adventure

Keep the ceremony simple and legal, then spend the rest of your wedding day somewhere beautiful.

No pressure, no planning commitment. Just the guide.
